Ambras Castle has been housing its extraordinary collections – the Armoury as well as the Chamber of Art and Wonders – in the original Renaissance buildings for 450 years.
Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol (1529–1595), one of the most important Habsburg collectors, had the ‘Ambras Lower Castle’ built specifically to function as a museum. This history makes Ambras Castle the oldest museum in the world that can still be experienced at its original site of origin.
Our key tasks and obligations as a museum include elaborate restorations and preventive conservation measures on valuable objects, but also research, culturally diverse events, and an extensive range of education, communication, and outreach activities for children and young adults.
Even in times of tight budgets, we strive to ensure the same quality and quantity of our activities for the benefit of future generations.
With your donation, you help us to fulfil these tasks and conserve our unique collections for the future!
